Sandi Fotheringham is a native of Hickory and a product of Hickory Public Schools.  A graduate of Appalachian State University, she holds a Master’s Degree and began her teaching career in Burke County.  Ms. Fotheringham was a Charter Teacher at East Burke High School where she taught for 15 years.  She finished the second half of her teaching career at Hickory High School where she served as Chair of the Social Studies Dept. and served as the Senior Class Advisor.  After teaching two years at Lenoir-Rhyne College (now University), she returned to Hickory Public Schools in Administration as Coordinator of all Volunteer Programs for the system.

In 2003 she worked with George and Sally Blackwelder to establish the Project Potential Scholarship Program for Hickory Public Schools which continues today.  In 2012 Ms. Fotheringham was asked by the new Superintendent, Dr. Hart, to research and organize an Education Foundation for HPS.  After visiting with Directors of several different Education Foundations, she held numerous meetings with key business and community leaders in Hickory to determine the needs of our system.  She recruited a Board of Directors and served as the lead to incorporate, draw up a set of Bylaws, and apply for non-profit status with the state.
